The drama "California Motel" is adapted from the novel "Home, Bitter Home" by South Korean writer Shen Yunrui. The story revolves around Chi Jiangxi (played by Lee Shi-rong), who was born and raised in the family running the rural motel - Motel California. Due to certain circumstances, he decides to leave his family and his first love, Qian Yanshu (played by Luo Renyou), behind in his hometown. Twelve years later, he is forced to return to his old home and reunites with his first love, leading to a rural romantic love story.
